Pilates Athens…is it any good?
Oh yes, it does! You’d be surprised at the quality of the pilates studios in Athens, Greece. I know I was!
Matthew and I spent 2 months living in Athens as digital nomads. One of the things I always need to sign up for when in a new destination is a gym of some sort. I thought of joining your usual gym but I found a pilates studio near me.
At this point, I had never done pilates before but I’ve always wanted to try it out and I had to take the opportunity!
If you’re wondering what pilates in Athens is like, keep reading! In this blog post, I’m going to share what you should look for in a studio, the best studio for any pilates lover in Athens and all the small details like price, types of classes and more.
Is There Pilates In Athens Greece?
Yes! There’s plenty of pilates studios in Athens, Greece.
You can usually find one studio in each major neighborhood in Athens. There are also many other types of gyms in Athens if you wanted to simply do weightlifting, HIIT, Crossfit and many more.
We stayed in the Pangrati neighborhood (which we highly recommend as digital nomads). This area was a 15 minutes walk to the city center (Plaka, Monastiraki) but you still get quite a local vibe, something we particularly enjoyed!
I simply searched on the Mind Body app for a pilates Athens studio near me and the best one popped up!
Pilates Athens Greece: How To Find The Right Studio
Looking for pilates classes in Athens, Greece?
When you search on Google, you might be overwhelmed by the number of studios that show up. But how do you choose the right studio for you?
Here are some of the things I asked myself to narrow down my choices:
- How close is the studio to my house/apartment?
- Am I willing to take public transport to the studio?
- How many classes will I attend per week?
- How important are the instructors’ vibe and community of the studio?
- Do I want a certain type of pilates (reformer, group MAT, private)?
- How much am I willing to pay for pilates in Athens, Greece?
- Does it matter if the classes are in Greek vs English?
If you can answer these questions, you will be able to choose the right studio for you. As for me, proximity to my apartment was absolutely key because I didn’t want to take public transport. I went to pilates classes about 4-5 times per week and that’s why it was so important to be within walking distance!
Remember: You are in Greece and therefore the default language of the classes will be in Greek. I have taken classes in different languages before (Spanish & Thai) and it’s easy enough to follow along simply by watching the teacher and everyone else around you. This wasn’t a problem for me while practicing pilates in Athens! In fact, I got to learn some Greek words and how to count to 10.
The Best Studio: 3 Circles Pilates Athens Greece
Pilates in Athens is aplenty but how do you know you’ve got a great studio?
It depends on a lot of things like:
- the teacher’s vibe (caring, helpful, wants you to learn)
- the type of classes available
- the community of people
Note: Since I’ve been to 3 Circles Pilates Athens, they have moved studio because they are continuing to grow every single day. They are in a much bigger space now which means there’s room for everyone!

You don’t have to be a pilates expert to join 3 Circles Pilates Athens!
In fact, when I joined it was my first time taking a group MAT pilates class…EVER! They were so kind and understanding that they helped me when I didn’t have any idea of how to do a posture correctly. I never felt embarrassed for not doing something right because they were so gracious in correcting me.

in pilates?

Types Of Pilates Classes Available
If you’ve done pilates before, you’ll know that there are many ways to practice it. You can do it with a group of people on a MAT or you might do it on a reformer machine privately with your teacher.
The best thing about pilates is that you can choose the best way to practice for yourself. As for me, I prefer practicing in a group environment in person – I feel it encourages and motivates me to push myself. Some pilates studios in Athens also offer virtual classes since the pandemic which are still possible to this day.
Here are some of the classes 3 Circles Pilates Athens offers:
They offer quite a few classes – you won’t have problems finding one that suits you.
Group MAT (In-person & Virtual)
Love the group environment like me? 3 Circles Pilates Studio offers great classes on the mat with some pretty awesome people. In the 8 weeks, I was there, I made quite a few friends in the class which is always the cherry on top. For me, this spoke volumes about the people, instructors and community behind 3 Circles Pilates.
For my first class, I had some friendly people help me figure out what to do (get a mat, set up, etc) which is comforting when you’re in a completely new environment. In the group pilates classes, the teacher will say the exercises and correct your form as needed.
Note: All classes are in Greek (of course)! I don’t speak any Greek but I assured them that I am more than happy to watch and follow along. When correction was needed, they just helped me adjust and honestly, by the end of our time in Greece – I learned to count to 10 and how to say ‘inhale’ and ‘exhale’ in Greek. Pretty cool, right?! I’ve done group classes in Guatemala, Colombia, Thailand and more. Having a class in a different language is a non-issue for me as it’s easy enough to follow along with my eyes.
We had about 8-12 people in the class but it still felt very intimate and manageable. The teachers are honestly what makes the difference, Georgia and Kiki, are simply the best. They want you to do well in each class and they will correct your form to help you out each time.
Other classes they offer are:
- Combination (Private/Duet + Mat)
- Private 1:1 Classes
- Duet 2:1 Classes
We stayed in Athens for nearly 2 months and I joined for the entire time, basically doing a monthly unlimited membership each time. Join the membership that works best for you and your schedule. They have something for everyone and every level!
Community at 3 Circles Pilates Athens Greece
A community is a part of why I love to join in-person group classes for any kind of workout. And the community at 3 Circles Pilates is one of the best!
From the moment I nervously walked in for my first-ever pilates class, I was greeted with a smile. Unsure of what to do, someone helped me out, grabbed a mat for me and show me where to set up. The people you will practice pilates within 3 Circles are some of the most welcoming and friendly people.
I just want to mention some of the people that made my pilates journey in Athens so much more fun: Paola, Lydia Andonis, Susan and many more! They all made me feel at home even though I didn’t speak Greek or practiced pilates before.
You won’t leave 3 Circles Pilates without a friend and that’s truly priceless.
The Instructors At 3 Circles Pilates Athens
What are the trainers like at 3 Circles Pilates?
If I could put it so simply: They are the best! Georgia, Kiki, Elizabeth and Katerina are all you wish for in a Pilates instructor. They are welcoming and patient to teach you the pose and guide you to hold your form well. They make you want to keep growing and improving your skills with all the support you need.
But they aren’t just instructors, they also continue to learn about pilates. They focus on Basi Pilates, attending conferences and workshops to ensure you are always getting the best and most up-to-date teachings.
If you want instructors that truly care about your growth for your fitness and mind – there’s no other like Georgia, Kiki, Elizabeth and Katerina. All of them are very encouraging, whenever I finally got a posture right – they would say ‘bravo’ which is just one of my favorite things!
