Working from cafes is so much fun! The buzz, atmosphere and delicious food + coffee are a great combination to getting work done. But finding laptop friendly cafes isn’t the easiest thing to do abroad…
What Is A Laptop Friendly Cafe?
Exactly what it means. A cafe that allows you to pull out your laptop without getting snarky looks (not always guaranteed though :P). Lots of digital nomads and remote workers prefer working from cafes but they need to have fast wifi and plenty of outlets to charge.
How We Find Cafes To Work From
Honestly, trial and error! We check out cafes that look spacious, have plugs in the reviews, fast wifi and read reviews then we just try it! That’s why we write about these laptop friendly cafes we find from all around the world. This way, we do some of the heavy lifting for you and curate a list of good spots!
What It’s Like Working From Cafes
It’s an age old debate about whether working from cafes or coworking spaces are better. It all depends! However, here’s some things to consider before working from cafes:
- It could be busy and distracting. If you need silence to work, cafes might be too noisy for you unless you enjoy the buzz (like I do).
- It’s inconsistent. You might not always get the table next to the outlet and you have to adjust every time you visit a laptop friendly cafe.
- But it’s got coffee and food. People prefer cafes because rather than paying for a monthly membership, they get to spend that money of food and coffee instead.
- It’s got a good buzz and atmosphere. Coworking spaces can be stale at times, cafes are always buzzing and got a cool atmosphere.
We stand pretty much in the middle of the coworking vs cafes debate – we love both for certain times.
Our Favorite Cafes Around The World
If I were to write every single cafe we love, this would be way too long. So here’s a shortlist of some cafes that we have worked at and highly recommend:
🇵🇹 Best cafes in Lisbon, Portugal
🇬🇷 Best cafes in Athens, Greece
🇨🇴 Best cafes in Medellin, Colombia
🇬🇹 Best cafes in Antigua, Guatemala
Make sure to check reviews, read blogs (like ours) and ask fellow digital nomads about cafes in the area to see which is best for you!
