Our Copenhagen Canggu Review
Look…
…Matthew and I are only slightly obsessed with having brunch on the weekends.
We do it wherever we go, whether that’s in Lisbon, Portugal or here in Bali, Indonesia.
After traveling to 30+ countries, we must admit that Bali has some of the best brunch cafes in the world.
And Copenhagen Canggu is one of our favorite spots. But it’s not perfect – not all places can be right?!
Here’s our honest review of our personal experience dining at Copenhagen Canggu:
- 🍽️ Menu: ★★★★★
- 💰 Price: ★★★★★
- 😎 Ambiance: ★★★★
- 🪑 Seating: ★★★
- 👩🏻🍳 Service: ★★★★★
- Overall Rating: ★★★★.5/5
We think the “Create Your Own Breakfast” is an easy crowd-pleaser.
They carefully chose a wide selection of savory and sweet treats to balance the palette. The value for money is also really great compared to other brunch spots in Bali.
However, we gave the seating only a 3/5 because it can feel very cramped, chaotic and busy.
Matthew and I always try to sit out by the road because it seems a little hot and crowded inside the cafe.
You might also have to share a table with strangers if it’s too busy and you don’t want to wait any longer.
Overall, we love brunching at Copenhagen Canggu! If you visit Bali, make sure to add this awesome brunch spot to your list of places to eat and drink good coffee.
Copenhagen Canggu Menu And Prices
The Copenhagen Canggu menu is fun and unique because you get to choose your own breakfast set.
Matthew likes to think of it like getting your own platter of small tapas dishes for breakfast – which is pretty accurate!
This means that it’s a great crowd-pleaser because everyone can order exactly what they want – whatever their dietary restrictions may be.
You can easily make it vegetarian, vegan, or even dairy-free!
Here’s how the “Create Your Own Breakfast” menu works:
- You get a piece of paper and choose whether you want 3 items or 5 items.
- From here, you can tick which menu items you want such as bakery, dairy, protein and more.
- Hand it over to the waitress, she will ask if you want any drinks.
That’s it! How much does brunch at Copenhagen Canggu cost?
- For 3 items, it costs Rp 75,000 ($4.80 USD).
- For 5 items, it costs Rp 115,000 ($7.35 USD).
We think the value for money is insane! The portions can be generous, I’m always full after.
Here are some of our favorite menu items at Copenhagen Canggu:
- Bread: Sourdough, Rye and the famous Cinnamon Roll (make sure to add jam!)
- Greens: Avocado Smash, Smoothie Bowl & Seasonal Fruit Salad
- Protein: Smoked Ham Panini, Chicken Sausages, Smoked Salmon
- Treats: Waffles, Carrot Cake
As you can see, there is just a great selection of food that makes it hard to choose.
The portions are pretty generous for a tapas-style brunch but Matthew and I always go for the 5 items. It’s just too good and tempting!
Service At Copenhagen Canggu
The service at Copenhagen Canggu is very good and efficient. The staff do a great job managing the orders and the long lines out the doors, all with a smile on their faces!
We have found we were always taken care of at Copenhagen Canggu. We make sure to put our names on the waitlist and patiently wait to be called.
I don’t know how the staff do it, but they can remember who was first in case the line doesn’t form appropriately.
If you arrive earlier, the staff try to make sure that you are seated in the right order so you don’t have to wait any longer than you’re meant to.
Ambiance At Copenhagen Canggu
The ambiance and atmosphere at Copenhagen Canggu is this nice mix of tropical Bali style with a flair of Nordic-inspired simplicity and minimalism.
We love the laid-back seating! However, the tables are pretty small so it can feel a little squished.
The other downside of dining at Copenhagen is that you might have to share a table if you don’t want to keep waiting.
Again, the tables are pretty small and there are limited seating options.
Once you have your seat though, it feels so nice to sit back, watch the tourists on their motorbikes drive past and enjoy your brunch food.
Copenhagen Opening Hours
As an all-day brunch spot, Copenhagen is open in the early morning till late afternoon. They have 3 locations now and here’s each of the opening hours:
- Canggu: 6:00am to 6:00pm
- Berawa: 7:00am to 6:00pm
- Perenanan (Bakery): 6:00am to 5:00pm
The peak hours are from 9:30am to 12:30pm. Some early mornings (from 7am) can also get busy. They seem to have peak times and down times throughout the morning rush.
Locations of Copenhagen Canggu
Copenhagen Canggu is one of the most popular all-day brunch spots in Bali. Due to its popularity, they have expanded since opening their main Canggu location.
Here are the Copenhagen locations in Bali:
- Copenhagen Canggu: All-day brunch menu
- Copenhagen Berawa: All-day brunch menu
- Copenhagen Bakery: Pastries & Coffee Only
The newest addition is their Berawa location. It’s a bigger cafe with 2 storeys which means there are more seats and tables than their Canggu location.
If you can’t be bothered to go to the Canggu location, Berawa is a great backup that’s only 10 minutes away by scooter or 20 minutes away by car.
Why Is Copenhagen Canggu So Popular?
The reason Copenhagen Canggu is so popular is because of the wide variety of sweet vs savory menu items, the friendly service and the value for money.
For only Rp 75,000 – you get a decent spread of your favorite brunch treats.
While the cafe itself is pretty small, they have done a great job at using the space and still making it all very aesthetic!
The food is very fresh, the pastries are to die for and the coffee is actually VERY good. I love their iced oat latte!
Tips For Brunching At Copenhagen Canggu
Yes, we have some advice for brunching at Copenhagen Canggu. While it’s like your typical brunch spot in Bali – the long lines are something else.
Here are some must-know tips to make sure you don’t wait too long and have a great time brunching at Copenhagen Canggu:
🕤 Arrive earlier than 9:30am.
If you get in early, you usually won’t have to wait very long. Matthew and I try to arrive before 10:00am and we’ve never waited more than 15 minutes on a weekend.
If you arrive at peak brunch time (around 10:30am) – you could be waiting 30+ minutes.
📋 Put your name on the waitlist.
As soon as you arrive, head up to the counter and ask to put your name down.
Then you can stand in the queue and they might give you a menu while waiting in line. The staff are insanely good at remembering who was first in line too (idk how they do it, it’s amazing).
🍽️ You might need to share a table.
When a table is available, you might have to share it with other customers.
If you don’t want to share, just say you are happy to wait longer until a table is ready. We’ve done this and haven’t had to wait too long until we get a table to ourselves.
🚧 The line goes out the door along the street.
If you’re waiting more than 15 minutes, standing on the side of the street might not be the most comfortable thing.
That’s why we won’t visit Copenhagen Canggu after 10:30am – it’s just too busy and chaotic!
🅿️ There’s extra parking down a small street.
If you’re taking your scooter to Copenhagen, they have a parking guard outside to help direct where you can park your bike. It’s a super small cafe so this is great!
Again, our biggest advice is to arrive early, especially if you don’t want to wait. Copenhagen Canggu is pretty small and the lines form out the door pretty quickly!
