Looking for the best breakfast in Lisbon? You’ve come to the right place!
Matthew and I visited over 15 breakfast spots in Lisbon (yes, we know, 15! We love it). The breakfast/brunch scene in Lisbon is one of the best we’ve experienced and we spent every weekend brunchin’, having some of the best coffee and enjoying the chill vibes.
The top 3 best breakfast in Lisbon has to be:
- Seagull Method Cafe
- Heim Cafe
- Flora & Fauna
If you’re looking for delicious breakfast food (eg. avocado toast, eggs benedict or smoothies bowls), beautiful seating areas and great cafe atmospheres – you can’t go wrong with any of these 3 spots.
However, going out for breakfast is such a popular activity that it can get pretty busy. We are going to share 11 of the best breakfast spots in Lisbon, from the popular cafes to the hidden gems, so you’ve always got somewhere to go!
11x Popular Breakfast In Lisbon (Plus Hidden Gems)
The breakfast scene in Lisbon is next level.
Matthew and I went for breakfast every single weekend and now we have curated the list of the best breakfast spots in Lisbon – sharing the popular places you must try to the hidden gems that you won’t find anywhere else!
Let’s get into it!
1. Seagull Method Cafe | Best Overall (Our Favorite!)
Seagull Method Cafe is the best breakfast spot in Lisbon! If you are looking for a breakfast spot with beautiful decor, cozy vibes, a delicious food menu and excellent coffee – we think you’ll love Seagull Method Cafe too.
Over our month living in Lisbon, we dined at Seagull Method at least 4 times (which is a LOT considering we tried other brunch spots too). Their menu has this perfect blend of sweet and savory to satisfy anyone’s taste buds and it’s just simply so delicious! We found this cafe also had great value for money – meals around only around €8 ($8.70 USD).
When you arrive at Seagull Method Cafe, the ambiance is cozy, delightful and a little small, which we think is part of the charm! You will be greeted by friendly staff who will help seat your party. Make sure to arrive early and put your name on the waitlist – there’s usually a queue.
It’s not all about the food at Seagull Method Cafe! The coffee is excellent (even for a coffee snob like Matt) and they serve iced caramel (or vanilla) lattes, which I personally recommend. For all the basic girlies like me who like their sweet iced coffee, you can order it at Seagull Method.
- Menu: Creative breakfast food & coffee
- Price: €6.90 to €12 | $7.50 to $13 USD
- Ambiance: Cozy, intimate, minimalist design
- Staff: Nice, friendly
- Reservations: No, Walk-in Only
- Overall Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.6/5
Seagull Method Cafe is located in the charming neighborhood of Principe Real. We suggest going to this cafe and afterward having a walk around the corner where you will find the 18th coolest street in the world, according to TimeOut.
- Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday, 9:00am – 6:00pm
- Address: R. da Palmeira 23, 1200-311 Lisboa, Portugal
- Instagram: @SeagullMethodCafe
Seagull Method Cafe is one of the best breakfast spots in Lisbon, attracting locals and tourists from around the world with their unique menu, decent coffee, charming atmosphere and friendly service.
2. Heim Cafe | Best For Creative, Delicious Food
Heim Cafe is a charming cafe serving delicious breakfast and brunch food, plus excellent coffee and natural wine. This is a sister cafe to Seagull Method Cafe which is why it’s at the top of this best breakfast in Lisbon list!
The cafe is small but they do offer outdoor seating. You will have to arrive early and put your name on the waiting list because it gets crowded very quickly!
When we went on a Saturday morning, we waited about 35 minutes. The staff were so kind and offered everyone a glass of sparkling wine while we waited in line which is why it’s one of our favorite breakfast spots in Lisbon. The amazing service is always memorable!
You can order the breakfast staples like avocado toast but Heim Cafe will add their own creative twist to this classic dish. This cafe has put a lot of thought and creativity behind each dish on the menu, for example, “Happy Eggs, Bacon Panwiches, and Mexican Benedict”. It’s an exciting and intriguing menu!
As the sister cafe of Seagull Method, you can also expect to have that same great cup of coffee. If you like iced coffee, don’t forget you can order iced caramel/vanilla lattes here!
The value for money at Heim Cafe is exceptional. You feel like you’re getting elaborate breakfast dishes for only around €7 to €13!
- Menu: Unique brunch food & coffee
- Price: €7 to €13 | $7.60 to $14 USD
- Ambiance: Charming greenery
- Staff: Kind, friendly
- Reservations: No, Walk-in Only
- Overall Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.4/5
Heim Cafe is located on this charming street in Santos-O-Velho which is only 20 minutes walking distance from the city center of Lisbon.
- Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday, 9:00am – 6:00pm
- Address: R. Santos-O-Velho 2 e 4, 1200-109 Lisboa, Portugal
- Instagram: @HeimCafe.Lisbon
If you’re looking for a good breakfast in Lisbon, Heim Cafe is one of the best options because they have a wide menu (sweet and savory), good coffee and a great atmosphere!
3. Fauna & Flora | Best Acai Bowls & Aesthetic
Fauna & Flora is a great breakfast spot in Lisbon with plenty of healthy options on their brunch menu. This has become one of the most popular breakfast spots in Lisbon and they have since expanded to 4 locations across the city!
Love acai bowls? We found Fauna & Flora had the best ones out of all the breakfast spots. You can also get plenty of vegetarian options and vegan options that are absolutely delicious! The prices at this cafe are also very reasonable with meals around €5.50 to €10.
Fauna and Flora can get very busy so it’s best to arrive early and get your name on the waiting list. Once you enter, it’s quite a welcoming atmosphere and the vibes are immaculate. It’s like a plant lover’s dream with beautiful greenery hanging all around.
While we enjoyed having breakfast at Fauna & Flora, the menu isn’t our absolute favorite and the coffee wasn’t amazing. The iced coffee was a bit too milky for me, unfortunately. I felt like the dishes would be more exciting for our vegetarian or vegan friends!
- Menu: Breakfast Staples, Vegetarian Options & Vegan Options
- Price: €5.50 to €10 | $6 to $10.90 USD
- Ambiance: Plants | Airy | Bustling
- Staff: Nice, efficient
- Reservations: No, Walk-in Only
- Overall Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.8/5
Fauna and Flora is a great breakfast spot in Lisbon that’s become a staple on the Lisbon breakfast scene. With this, the growth has been insane and they have expanded to 3 locations across the city.
- Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday, 9:00am – 6:00pm (Each store may differ slightly)
- Address: Chiado, Santos, Anjos, Estoril
- Instagram: @FaunaFloraLisboa
TTA TIP: The Santos location is the most popular one – it’s very cute as it’s on a slope of a hill with nice outdoor seating BUT it is the most crowded one. We recommend trying the Anjos location which is less busy but still has the same aesthetics – especially if you want to go on a weekend.
4. The Mill | Best Aussie-Style Brunch & Intimate Setting
The Mill is a Portuguese cafe that brings the classic Australian-style breakfast and brunch to the bustling city of Lisbon. They serve staples like avocado toast, french toast and pancakes along with specialty coffee.
At this point in our trip, it had been a few months since we’d been in Australia and Matthew (who’s Aussie) wanted to check out The Mill. The laid-back, cool atmosphere and the simple breakfast dishes took Matt back home. He got something similar to a big breakfast and we also asked for extra bacon which was so yummy!
The seating at The Mill is very small, intimate and a bit too cozy if you know what I mean! We felt a little too close to others and the tables and chairs weren’t very comfortable. Make sure to arrive early and be prepared to wait a bit!
We highly recommend ordering the avocado toast – the sourdough bread with a generous layer of perfectly ripe avocados makes this a must-try. If you want a taste of home, you can even order Vegemite toast at The Mill – now that’s unique!
- Menu: Aussie brunch, avocado toast and big breakfast
- Price: €6.50 to €13 | $7 to $14 USD
- Ambiance: Intimate | Minimalist
- Staff: Friendly, Efficient
- Reservations: No, Walk-in Only
- Overall Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.7/5
We loved having breakfast at The Mill, however the cramped seating and the underwhelming coffee made it a little hard for us to absolutely love it. The breakfast food is delicious and the vibes made us want to revisit.
- Opening Hours: M to F, 8:00am – 3:00pm; Sat & Sun, 8:00am – 4:00pm
- Address: R. do Poço dos Negros 1, 1200-335 Lisboa, Portugal
- Contact: Website | Instagram
The Mill is located on a very charming hill, only 10-20 minutes away from the city center of Lisbon. You can easily take a tram or walk to get there.
5. Dear Breakfast | Best Design & Aesthetic
Dear Breakfast is one of the most popular spots to have breakfast in Lisbon. The minimal black and white decor with beautiful vaulted ceilings and arches make this spot aesthetically pleasing for brunch lovers.
This iconic Lisbon breakfast spot offers your usual brunch food with some pastries to enjoy as well. The menu has a wide variety of choices, making it a great option! You can also order juices, smoothies and coffee!
TTA Tip: Grab yourself a tote bag with the Dear Breakfast logo. It’s such a cute and practical bag to remember your Lisbon trip!
As usual with most of the best breakfast spots in Lisbon, you will have to arrive early or be prepared to wait to dine at Dear Breakfast. They have 3 locations across the city so there’s plenty of chances to try this cafe wherever you happen to be around Lisbon.
- Menu: Wide range of delicious food and drink options
- Price: €6 to €14.50 | $6.50 to $15.80 USD
- Ambiance: Spacious | Aesthetic
- Staff: Friendly, Slightly Overwhelmed
- Reservations: Yes, Book Here
- Overall Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5
Matthew and I enjoyed eating at Dear Breakfast! We arrived early and were seated right away. The staff however seemed a little overwhelmed and therefore, we felt it took a while to get our order in and our food to come through. Matthew ordered the sausage and it was a bit too strong on the black beans for his liking while I ordered the usual avocado toast with pickled onions which was delicious.
Dear Breakfast have locations all across the city in Santos, Bica, Alfama and Chiado. We recommend the Alfama location specifically because it’s located close to the city center and it’s in this old building with vaulted ceilings making it a beautiful place to have breakfast.
- Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday, 9:00am – 5:00pm
- Address: Santos, Bica, Alfama, Chiado
- Contact: Website | Instagram
If you want a beautiful aesthetic cafe with delicious food, Dear Breakfast is one of the best options in Lisbon.
6. Hello Kristof | Best Innovative Menu
Hello Kristof is a small, hole-in-the-wall cafe that exudes charm and coziness. This cafe focuses on serving fresh, local products along with specialty coffee.
This is one of the best breakfast spots in Lisbon for healthy brunch options including plenty of plant-based dishes to choose from. You can choose from your toast staples, smoothie bowls and even some pastries!
Hello Kristof is a magazine concept store which means you can have a coffee, breakfast and a flick through their collection. It’s a great place to take friends or to go by yourself and have a slow coffee in the morning or afternoon.
The ambiance at Hello Kristof is very simple, clean and Scandinavian-like. It has this calming effect as soon as you enter this breakfast spot in Lisbon, Portugal.

- Ambiance: Clean, Simple, Modern
- Staff: Friendly, efficient
- Reservations: No, Walk-in Only
- Overall Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
The price is a little higher than other popular breakfast options in Lisbon with the salty brunch option coming in at €20. We think that you still get great value for money and it’s worth visiting Hello Kristof.
- Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday, 8:45am – 3:45pm
- Address: R. do Poço dos Negros 103, 1200-337 Lisboa, Portugal
- Contact: Website | Instagram
Hello Kristof is on a charming hill next to another popular breakfast spot in Lisbon. The wait can be a little long because it is pretty small and busy but there’s other options nearby such as The Mill and Dear Breakfast.
7. The Folks | Best Specialty Coffee & Sleek Design
The Folks is a modern, sleek breakfast spot in Lisbon serving specialty coffee. We found this breakfast spot in Lisbon mainly because they were mentioned on the Roasters coffee app. And to be honest, it didn’t disappoint!
If you’re a serious coffee lover like us, you’ll want to add The Folks to your list of places to visit in Lisbon. But what about the breakfast at The Folks? It’s a simple and thoughtful menu serving your classic breakfast dishes that brunch-goers love.
The modern, sleek design is what sets The Folks apart. You’ve got this interesting aluminum-like ceiling with clean tables and chairs. Very cool! There is plenty of seating so you won’t be too cramped like other cafes in Lisbon which is surprising considering one of their locations is in the city center of Baixa.
- Menu: Simple, classic breakfast with specialty coffee
- Price: €8 to €13 | $8.70 to $14
- Ambiance: Cool, Clean, Modern
- Staff: Nice, Friendly
- Reservations: No, Walk-in Only
- Overall Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.2/5
While the food and coffee are good, we don’t think it’s amazing value for money. The price for food and drinks at The Folks is on the higher end of this list, ranging from €8 for porridge to €13 for avocado toast. Compared to other breakfast spots in Lisbon, it seems slightly overpriced for what you get.
- Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday, 8:30am to 5:00pm
- Address: Chiado, Santos, Blue Street, Sé
- Contact: Website | Instagram
The Folks now have 4 locations in Lisbon – one known as Blue Street, another with views of Sé Monastery, one in Baixa Chiado and another in the charming neighborhood of Santos. We visited the Baixa location and it wasn’t busy like the other breakfast spots in Lisbon which means less wait time if you go!
8. Zenith Breakfast | Best Brunch & Cocktails
Wanting a boozy brunch date with all your friends? Zenith Breakfast is the best option for that!
Zenith Breakfast is a popular spot so you need to arrive early to snag a table, especially if you’ve got a bigger group of friends with you. The cocktails here are very good and the brunch food is very tasty – sure to please anyone’s taste buds!
While Zenith Breakfast has a two-storey building, it still fills up very quickly. We recommend getting there early or visiting on a weekday when there are fewer crowds. The aesthetic is more industrial, wooden and rustic brick-style.
- Menu: Brunch All Day, Cocktails & Coffee
- Price: €4 to €12.50 | $4.30 to $13.60
- Ambiance: Industrial, Brick, Modern
- Staff: Fun, Friendly Motivated

- Overall Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
The staff are very fun, friendly and helpful making it a great place to hang out with friends and enjoy your food. Value for money is pretty great at Zenith Breakfast, you can easily find meals from €6.50 to salmon salad bowls for €12.50. A great range to choose from!

11. Cafe Janis | Best Bistro-Style Brunch & Drinks
Cafe Janis is a picturesque bistro-style cafe located in the heart of Cais do Sodre. It’s a popular area where many tourists go to visit TimeOut Market, Pink Street and more.

Must-Know Tips Before Having Breakfast In Lisbon (Pros vs. Cons)
Having breakfast in Lisbon was a little more tricky than we expected. There were a few things we learned about how they organize the crowds – especially on the weekends.
Let me explain a little further by sharing the must-know tips to make sure you have the best breakfast experience in Lisbon!
🚶♂️ Walk-In Only
Most of the breakfast spots in Lisbon do NOT take reservations. This means they will only allow walk-in customers on the spot. You cannot call ahead to reserve a table for most places, double-check with each breakfast cafe first.
⏳ Wait Times Could Be Up To 1+ Hour
I’m not even kidding, we have waited close to an hour for some of the best breakfast spots in Lisbon. Is the wait worth it? Yes! We think so. Not all places will have such a long wait time.
The usual wait time for breakfast in Lisbon is from 10 minutes to 35 minutes for most spots…if you get there at the right time, on the right day which brings me to my next point…
📆 Visit On A Weekday For Less Wait Time
If you’re on vacation or have the opportunity to go out for breakfast in Lisbon on a weekday, we highly encourage it! The lines will be much shorter than on a weekend when the main brunch crowd comes out.
📋 Don’t Just Wait In Line, Put Your Name On The List
We quickly learned that most places have a waiting list. The first thing you do when you arrive at a breakfast spot in Lisbon is go up to a server and ask to put your name on the waiting list. People tend to crowd outside the breakfast spot and we saw SOOO many people simply stand in line without getting on the list.
Don’t be that person. You could be waiting much longer than you actually have to. Arrive and immediately put your name on the waiting list!
🕗 Get There Early
The busiest breakfast times are from 10:30am to 12:00pm. If you don’t want to wait as long, arrive as early as you can. Matthew and I usually arrived before 10:00am, making our wait times only around 10 minutes to 15 minutes (if any). This is optional – it just depends on how long you’re willing to wait.
Now that you know the essential tips, you can be prepared and have the best breakfast experience in Lisbon!
Typical Portuguese Spots To Have Breakfast In Lisbon
Lisbon’s breakfast and brunch scene has become some of the best in the world. You’ll find modern, trendy and aesthetic cafes on almost every corner serving traditional brunch food.
But what about your typical Portuguese breakfast that locals would have?
A typical Portuguese breakfast usually includes a coffee, juice and a pastry. The coffee is either a shot of espresso or coffee with milk, something similar to a latte. Some places have a set menu with all 3 options combined. They are usually VERY affordable with an espresso costing only around €1.50 and a pastry costing around €2 to €3.
Here are some of our favorite typical Portuguese breakfast spots:
- Solar da Madalena: Friendly owners | Best Bifanas | Low-cost
- A Padaria Portuguesa: Set menu from €6 | Bread, pastries, coffee
Matthew and I enjoyed going down to our local Portuguese cafe to have a quick shot of coffee before heading to the coworking spaces in Lisbon. You can find the typical breakfast at smaller, hole-in-the-wall cafes.

The best breakfast in Lisbon has to be Seagull Method, Heim Cafe and Fauna & Flora. Each offers a wide menu of delicious food, serves decent coffee and has a great atmosphere to enjoy! If you’re looking for more hidden gem options, we recommend Hello Kristof and Melbourne Elouera.
