Are there even coworking spaces in Playa del Carmen?!
…If you’re thinking about joining the Playa del Carmen digital nomad community, you have to ask that question. While people think digital nomads just travel and have all of the fun – they couldn’t be more wrong.
Digital nomads are some of the hardest working people we’ve met and they need a coworking spaces to match their productivity needs. Thankfully, that’s not a problem in Playa del Carmen because each year more and more coworking spaces are popping up.
After spending 3 months in Playa del Carmen (our longest time in 1 location), we are sharing the 3 best coworking spaces – not ALL the spaces, just the BEST ones.
In this blog post, we will define coworking spaces, what makes them great and which ones could be the best Playa del Carmen coworking spaces for you.
Overview Of Playa del Carmen Coworking
You are spoilt for choice when it comes to Playa del Carmen coworking. Every year, there seem to be more coworking spaces opening up.
While we were living in Playa del Carmen as digital nomads, we mostly worked from home because we had a very nice Airbnb apartment. But we also loved to work from cafes in Playa del Carmen and coworking spaces. In this case, we did mostly day passes and split our time between the three work options.
Our friend, Christina, also organized coworking Wednesdays at a beach club and we got to create a little community from there.
Wherever you like to work, coworking in Playa del Carmen is always a great option to have.
Living in Playa del Carmen and coworking means:
- Beautiful sunny weather
- 10 minutes walk to the beach
- Delicious Mexican food
- Affordable cost of living
The truth is that coworking in Mexico has become a big thing. There are tons of great spaces opening up all over the country as more and more digital nomads and remote workers enjoy everything that Mexico has to offer.
In this list, we rate the top 3 Playa del Carmen coworking spaces and examine things like prices, desks and chairs, community/events, wifi speeds and more.
NEST Coworking Playa del Carmen
Nest is the OG coworking space in Playa del Carmen. We first heard about NEST Coworking from our favorite freelancer, Chris The Freelancer. We were excited to check out NEST for ourselves and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
Nest coworking is one of the biggest coworking spaces available and it has a very central location in Playa del Carmen. They have two different rooms to work in on different floors, depending on how you want to work: a creative room and a silent room.
USD Price for NEST Coworking Playa del Carmen:
- Daily: $13
- Weekly: $65
- Monthly: $180
Hours: Monday to Sunday, 24/7
Wifi Speed: 60+ Mbps
Community: Vibrant with events like workshops and barbecues
Desk & Chairs: A little dated but comfortable
While it is one of the most popular coworking spaces in Playa del Carmen, it happens to also be one of the busiest. You might be elbow to elbow with your coworker at busy times, but the wifi is always be stable and fast – no matter the number of people.
Bunker Coworking Playa del Carmen
BUNKER Coworking is relatively new to the coworking scene in Playa del Carmen but they have quickly climbed the ranks to become one of the top choices.
Why?
They claim to have the fastest wifi of all the coworking spaces in Playa del Carmen, at speeds of up to 200+ Mbps. They are not as spacious as NEST but they do have new desks and chairs that are very comfortable to work from.
Price for Bunker Coworking Playa del Carmen:
- Daily: 280 MXN ($16 USD)
- Weekly: 1,250 MXN ($73 USD)
- Monthly: 3,300 MXN ($192 USD)
Hours: Monday to Sunday, 24/7
Wifi Speed: 200+ Mbps
Community: Work-focused, down-to-earth people
Desk & Chairs: Almost new
Bunker also has other options for coworking if you prefer something like a private office to work from while in Playa del Carmen.
The only thing people say about Bunker is that it feels like you are working in an actual bunker because there is not much natural light that comes through. I really value natural light and it helps me a lot which is why it wouldn’t work for me. But if lightning wifi speed is what matters plus comfy chairs – Bunker could be for you.
Selina Coworking Playa del Carmen
Selina is a well-known hostel all around Central/South America (and beyond), which usually also offers coworking spaces to its guests and members.
If you choose Selina Coworking, you will find yourself in the heart of Playa del Carmen with boho-chic designs and chill vibes. The crowd is a little different than what you would get at NEST because again – it is still a hostel. They are typically younger and possibly backpackers versus digital nomads who travel full-time and work online.
USD Price for Selina Coworking Playa del Carmen:
- Daily: 250 MXN ($13 USD)
- Weekly: 993 MXN ($52 USD)
- Monthly: 2979 MXN ($160 USD)
Hours: Monday to Sunday; 24/7
Wifi Speed: 25 – 50 Mbps
Community: Fun and open-minded people to hand out with
Desk & Chairs: Mixed of boho chairs and office chairs
Selina Coworking Playa del Carmen is a great option if you are traveling through Central/South America because they are reliable and usually located in the main areas of major digital nomad destinations. For us, Selina isn’t our ‘vibe’ and we have closed the doors on staying at hostels long before.
We tried Selina coworking in Antigua Guatemala and it was quite the experience. The coworking space is really loud at times and the etiquette just isn’t there. You will just have to try it for yourself!

What Is A Coworking Space?
A coworking space is often referred to as a shared office space. There are desks where anyone can choose to sit. The thing that separates a coworking space from simply an ‘office’ is the community and events they bring to the table.
These coworking spaces are made for digital nomads who work online and travel, online entrepreneurs and remote workers.
What Makes A Coworking Space…Great?
Great coworking spaces consist of something we like to call the ‘coworking trifecta’ (a term we came up with).
How did we come up with this?
After trying coworking spaces in Playa del Carmen, Bali, Chiang Mai, Medellin and more, we realized the ones we loved the most had all three. The truth is there are a ton of benefits of coworking spaces.
But there can be some disadvantages of coworking spaces if they don’t come properly equipped.
That’s why we rely on the coworking trifecta!
Coworking Trifecta:
I’ve come up with the term ‘coworking trifecta’ to help define what makes a coworking space for digital nomads great.
Use it every time you are looking for a new coworking space for yourself!
1. Reliable, Fast Wifi Speeds
One of the most important factors for digital nomads is a stable and fast wifi connection. We had a friend who was a coach in the middle of a sales call who suddenly lost wifi for 1 hour and sadly lost that sale too.
It goes without saying that this does happen occasionally, but if it happens frequently – the coworking space isn’t doing its part to offer reliable wifi.
TTA TIP: Before you commit to a coworking space, bring your laptop or phone and ask to connect to the wifi to check the speed for yourself. You can also ask how they would respond if the wifi went out – if it’s super important for you and your work.
2. Vibrant Community with Events
As digital nomads who travel continuously, it’s easy to feel lonely when you land in a new destination and have no one to share it with. Coworking spaces are a great place to meet new people who are like-minded and do activities with them.
Dojo is a world-famous coworking space in Bali that is excellent at creating community. For example, they have new members breakfasts on Tuesday and Friday beers at the beach. People pay the high price at Dojo because the chance to join a fun, tight-knit community is worth the price for digital nomads.
We made a lot of the friends we have now mostly from coworking spaces. One of them, Dom from Austria, has become a super close friend to us and he even became a groomsman for Matthew at our wedding! They were all in different industries but we shared the common value of the freedom to work and travel anywhere.
3. Comfortable Desks and Chairs
Ever tried working from a hammock?
Yeah, it just doesn’t work. It makes for a nice photo…but who are we kidding?
Our most productive work is done when we have comfy (usually rolley) chairs and desks to work from. Bali Bustle, our coworking in Bali, had the best ergonomic chairs and stayed open 24/7 for anyone working in European/US time zones.
We usually stay away from uncomforatble desks and chairs…especially if we’re in a humid or hot destination.
Sweat + humidity + horrible desk and chairs = unproductive work sessions.
And that’s the truth with some cheese on it!
