Digital nomads are some of the hardest working people we’ve met and they need a coworking space in Playa del Carmen to match their productivity needs. Thankfully, that’s not a problem because each year more and more coworking spaces in Playa del Carmen pop up.

After spending 3 months (our longest time in 1 location), we are sharing the 3 best Playa del Carmen coworking spaces – not ALL the spaces, just the BEST ones.

Overview Of Playa del Carmen Coworking

You are spoilt for choice when it comes to Playa del Carmen coworking. Every year, there seem to be more coworking spaces opening up.

While we were living in Playa del Carmen as digital nomads, we mostly worked from home because we got a very nice Airbnb apartment. We loved to work from cafes in Playa del Carmen (and found the best one) and usually worked from coworking spaces. In this case, we did mostly day passes and split our time between the three work options.

Our friend, Christina, also organized coworking Wednesdays at a beach club and we got to create a little community from there.

Whichever you choose, coworking in Playa del Carmen is always a great option to have.

For good reason, living in Playa del Carmen and coworking means:

  • Beautiful sunny weather
  • 10 minutes walk to the beach
  • Delicious Mexican food
  • Affordable cost of living

The truth is that coworking in Mexico has become a big thing. There are tons of great spaces opening up all over the country as more digital nomads and remote workers enjoy everything that Mexico has to offer.

In this list, we rate the top 3 Playa del Carmen coworking spaces and examine things like prices, desks and chairs, community/events, wifi speeds and more.

NEST Coworking Playa del Carmen

Nest is the OG coworking space in Playa del Carmen. We first heard about NEST Coworking from our favorite freelancer, Chris The Freelancer. We were excited to check out NEST for ourselves and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

Nest coworking is one of the biggest coworking spaces available and it has a very central location in Playa del Carmen. You have two different rooms to work in on different floors: a creative room and a silent room depending on how you want to work.

USD Price for NEST Coworking Playa del Carmen:

  • Daily: $13
  • Weekly: $65
  • Monthly: $180

Hours: Monday to Sunday; 24/7

Wifi Speed: 60+ Mbps

Community: Vibrant with events like workshops and barbecues

Desk & Chairs: A little dated but comfortable

nest coworking playa del carmen prices

While it is one of the most popular coworking spaces in Playa del Carmen, it happens to also be one of the busiest coworking spaces. You might be elbow to elbow with your coworker at high times but the wifi is always be stable and fast – no matter the number of people.

Bunker Coworking Playa del Carmen

BUNKER Coworking is relatively new to the coworking scene in Playa del Carmen but they have quickly climbed the ranks to become one of the top choices.

bunker playa del carmen coworking

Why?

They claim to have the fastest wifi of all the coworking spaces in Playa del Carmen at speeds of up to 200+ Mbps. They are not as spacious as NEST but they do have new desks and chairs that are very comfortable to work from.

Price for Bunker Coworking Playa del Carmen:

  • Daily: 280 MXN ($15 USD)
  • Weekly: 1,250 MXN ($67 USD)
  • Monthly: 3,300 MXN ($177 USD)

Hours: Monday to Sunday; 24/7

Wifi Speed: 200+ Mbps

Community: Work-focused, down-to-earth people

Desk & Chairs: Almost new

Bunker also has other options for coworking if you prefer something like a private office to work from while in Playa del Carmen.

bunker coworking playa del carmen price list

The only thing people say about Bunker is that it feels like you are working in an actual bunker because there is not much natural light that comes through. I really value natural light and it helps me a lot which is why it won’t work for me. If lightning wifi speed is what matters plus comfy chairs – Bunker could be for you.

Selina Coworking Playa del Carmen

Selina is a well-known hostel all around Central/South America (and beyond) which usually also offers coworking spaces to its guests plus any members.

selina playa del carmen coworking
Photo by Selina Playa del Carmen Coworking

If you choose Selina Coworking, you will find yourself in the heart of Playa del Carmen with boho-chic designs and chill vibes. The crowd is a little different than what you would get at NEST because again – it is still a hostel. They are typically younger and possibly backpackers versus digital nomads who travel full-time and work online.

USD Price for Selina Coworking Playa del Carmen:

  • Daily: 250 MXN ($13 USD)
  • Weekly: 993 MXN ($52 USD)
  • Monthly: 2979 MXN ($160 USD)

Hours: Monday to Sunday; 24/7

Wifi Speed: 25 – 50 Mbps

Community: Fun and open-minded people to hand out with

Desk & Chairs: Mixed of boho chairs and office chairs

selina playa del carmen coworking costs

Selina Coworking Playa del Carmen is a great option if you are traveling through Central/South America because they are reliable and usually located in the main areas of major digital nomad destinations. For us, Selina isn’t our ‘vibe’ and we have closed the doors on staying at hostels long before.

We tried Selina coworking in Antigua Guatemala and it was quite the experience. The coworking space is really loud at times and the etiquette just isn’t there. You will just have to try it for yourself!

What Is A Coworking Space?

A coworking space is often referred to as a shared office space. There are desks where anyone can choose to sit. The thing that separates a coworking space from simply an ‘office’ is the community and events they bring to the table.

coworking space
Great coworking spaces need to have reliable, secure and fast wifi, comfortable tables and chairs and a vibrant community.

These coworking spaces are made for digital nomads who work online and travel, online entrepreneurs and remote workers.

What Makes A Coworking Space…Great?

Great coworking spaces consist of something we like to call the coworking trifecta (a term we came up with).

How did we come up with this?

After trying coworking spaces in Playa del Carmen, Bali, Chiang Mai, Medellin and more – we realized the ones we loved the most had all three. The truth is there are a ton of benefits of coworking spaces.

But there can be some disadvantages of coworking spaces if they don’t come properly equipped

That’s why we rely on the coworking trifecta!

Coworking Trifecta:

I’ve come up with the term ‘coworking trifecta’ to help define what makes a coworking space for digital nomads great.

Use it every time you are looking for a new coworking space for yourself!

1. Reliable, Fast Wifi Speeds

One of the most important factors for digital nomads is a stable and fast wifi connection. We had a friend who was a coach in the middle of a sales call who suddenly lost wifi for 1 hour and sadly that sale too.

It goes without saying that this does happen occasionally but if it happens frequently – the coworking space isn’t doing its part to offer reliable wifi.

Before you commit to a coworking space, we recommend bringing your laptop or phone and asking to connect to the wifi to check the speed for yourself. You can also ask how they would respond if the wifi went out – if it’s super important for you and your work.

2. Vibrant Community with Events

As digital nomads who travel continuously, it’s easy to feel lonely when you land in a new destination and have no one to share it with. Coworking spaces are a great place to meet new people who are like-minded and do activities with them.

coworking speaking events
Photo by Austin Distel on Unsplash

Dojo is a world-famous coworking space in Bali that is excellent at creating community. For example, they have new members breakfasts on Tuesday and Friday beers at the beach. People pay the high price at Dojo because the chance to join a fun, tight-knit community is worth the price for digital nomads.

We made a lot of the friends we have now mostly from coworking spaces. One of them, Dom from Austria, has become a super close friend to us and he even became a groomsman for Matthew at our wedding! They were all in different industries but we shared the common value of the freedom to work and travel anywhere.

3. Comfortable Desks and Chairs

Ever tried working from a hammock?

Yeah, it just doesn’t work. It makes for a nice photo…but who are we kidding?

Our most productive work is done when we have comfy (usually rolley) chairs and desks to work from. Bali Bustle, our coworking in Bali, had the best ergonomic chairs and stayed open 24/7 for anyone working in European/US time zones.

We usually stay away from desks and chairs like this…especially if we’re in a humid or hot destination.

Sweat + humidity + horrible desk and chairs = unproductive work sessions.

And that’s the truth with some cheese on it!

Flying out to Cyprus just made sense! 🇨🇾⁣ Flying out to Cyprus just made sense! 🇨🇾⁣
⁣
The weather in Europe started to get colder in October and if you know us, you’ll know we chase the sunshine ☀️⁣
⁣
The best part is that we were joining a coliving space with some friends we made back in Zagreb! We spent an awesome month together - exploring the country, getting work done together and getting to know each other better!⁣
⁣
We love coliving because you get to have an instant community as soon as you land. A nomadic life gets lonely (yes, even as a couple) and coliving spaces usually create great communities with like-minded people!⁣
⁣
⁣
@tohani_coliving was especially great at creating events for everyone. During our first week, we had a community design meeting to discuss and plan the kind of things we wanted to do together. I'll share more about our experience on coliving soon ✌️⁣
⁣
Here are some of the highlights:⁣
🌊 Swimming in the ocean with friends⁣

Is Skopje, North Macedonia on your destination lis Is Skopje, North Macedonia on your destination list? 🇲🇰⁣
⁣
On our Europe tour, we decided to make Skopje home for a few weeks! One of the main reason is because I needed to renew my passport which is much faster outside the country.⁣
⁣
Other than that, we didn’t really know what to expect. There weren't many blogs or videos about being digital nomads here. We could only find 1 coworking space in the area but there were plenty of cafes to visit! There’s a huge cafe culture which is always nice.⁣
⁣
We had a really nice, modern, comfortable apartment in Skopje for $580 USD which was 5 minutes walking from the city center. The cost of living is pretty affordable and it’s very safe! ⁣
⁣
If you’re looking for a city to get some work done, explore the surrounding destinations and establish some routine or even simply go to the BEST gym I've ever been to (@fit_in_performance) - Skopje could be that place for you!⁣

Lisbon, Portugal is the top digital nomad destinat Lisbon, Portugal is the top digital nomad destination in Europe! 🇵🇹Why?⁣
⁣
One word: community!⁣
⁣
According to some digital nomad statistics, loneliness is the #1 reason people leave this lifestyle. When you’re traveling alone (or even as a couple), you easily feel all alone. Thankfully, the digital nomad community is very strong, open and welcoming!⁣
⁣
Lisbon is also a popular spot because of the fast wifi (we had speeds of 500+ Mbps), endless coworking options and a relatively affordable cost of living (except the rising rental prices, of course let's be real). ⁣
⁣
Our month in this wonderful city wasn’t long enough! It’s got all the simple things we love:⁣
 ☕ specialty coffee⁣
🍷 delicious food & wine⁣
🥑 bustling brunch scene and ⁣

We can easily see why digital nomads keep coming back to this city and we hope we can explore more of Portugal (Porto, Algrave, etc).⁣

⁣
Zagreb, Croatia has been on our minds for a while. While most people think of Split or Dubrovnik, we wanted to visit the capital and see what it’s really like for digital nomads.⁣
⁣
These are some things that we think of before choosing a destination:⁣
- Is there an active digital nomad community?⁣
- What’s the wifi speeds like?⁣
- Are there good coworking spaces?⁣
- Is the cafe culture buzzing?⁣
⁣
And so much more! Our biggest concern was the community part. After traveling Serbia alone - we were starting to feel quite lonely! We joined an FB group and found someone had set up a weekly coworking day.⁣
⁣
It’s always nerve-wracking going to events where you don’t know anyone but as digital nomads, you get acquainted pretty quick! TLDR, we had a pretty close group of 8 working from cafes together, exploring Zagreb and getting to know each other.⁣

Zagreb is a great destination in Europe for a digital nomad wanting a more affordable cost of living while still exploring Croatia! 🇭🇷⁣

⁣
…but we are SO glad we did!⁣
⁣
Serbia surprised us in so many ways, we honestly didn’t know what to expect! ⁣
⁣
That’s one of the ways we like to approach some of our travels - not judging the country by its cover. You can hear some positive (or negative) things about countries but you never truly know until you experience it for yourself. ⁣
⁣
We spent a month living in Belgrade, Serbia and it wasn’t long enough! With such limited time, as digital nomads you have to hit the ground running to get settled into your new home. We used our first 3 days to find (good) cafes to work from, sign up for a gym membership and plan our travel across Serbia.⁣
⁣
Here are some reasons we can recommend Belgrade to fellow digital nomads:⁣
- friendly, welcoming people⁣
- they have delicious food⁣
- high standard of living⁣
- relatively low cost of living⁣
- fast wifi with tons of cafes to work from ⁣
⁣
We ate countless bureks, drank copious amounts of coffee and worked from some of the coolest cafes. We can’t wait to get back to Belgrade!⁣

Serbia, you stole our hearts!⁣

⁣
We moved from Laureles to El Poblado in March to truly answer the question “Which neighborhood is best for digital nomads?” - there seems to always be a debate (for good reason). If you read our blog post on where to stay, you’ll know our answer 😉⁣
⁣
If you hate working from home - you’ll love your ‘office’ options in Poblado! There are endless cafes, coworking spaces and free coworking zones in the mall (yes, free!). @elopenspace, @pergaminocafe and El Tesoro Mall are some of the faves!⁣

Settling into a new country as digital nomads isn’t always easy…⁣
⁣
…We spent our first full month in Medellin, Colombia going through a list of things to sort out for ourselves (per usual).⁣
⁣
It might look like we just land in a country and have everything sorted by day 1 but that’s certainly not the case.⁣
⁣
In each country as digital nomads, you have to:⁣
- Buy a local SIM card (or find an eSIM solution - @airalocom & @realnomadtravel are our faves)⁣
- Find your local grocery store⁣
- Get connected with the digital nomad community (constantly putting ourselves out there)⁣
- Figure out where to work (coworking vs cafes)⁣
- Plan the activities we want to do while visiting the country⁣
- And so much more!⁣

We heard so much about Medellin for digital nomads, we just had to check out what all the buzz was about (especially as we run a blog for digital nomads).⁣

2022 didn’t start off as we expected…⁣

…lying on the beach in Thailand, one of our favorite places in the world. 🌴⁣
⁣
Instead, we were touring a couple more US cities: Phoenix, San Francisco and Miami! At this point, we didn’t know how our year would look but we just needed to nail down our next location as digital nomads.⁣
⁣
How did we do that? Simply go on Google flights, enter Miami (where we currently were) and don’t add a destination! There was one place that popped up that was high on our digital nomad destination list - Medellin, Colombia! 🇨🇴⁣
⁣
For $245.15 USD total, Matthew and I hopped on a 2 hour plane ride to a country (and continent) we’ve never stepped foot on before! 🥹⁣

Well, that's the truth...🤷🏻‍♀️ ⠀ Dig Well, that's the truth...🤷🏻‍♀️
⠀
Digital nomad life isn’t for everyone.

There are days you’ll feel excited to live in a new country every couple of months, ready to learn about other cultures & always inspired by fellow digital nomads you meet on the road.

But there are days where you’ll feel lonely, stuck, miserable and exhausted from moving and/or always making new friends.

This digital nomad lifestyle is no way perfect, as it may look. But…

We wouldn’t have it any other way 🤍
