Thinking of visiting the dentist in Merida Mexico?
Mexico is well-known for offering high-quality dental services without a hefty price tag. We last went to the dentist in Playa del Carmen and had a very good experience.
So while traveling as digital nomads in Merida, we decided to look for a dental clinic to get a checkup and cleaning.
In this blog, we’ll go through what you need to know before booking an appointment with a dentist in Merida Mexico.
Dental Tourism In Merida Mexico
Our primary concern with visiting the dentist in Merida was ensuring that we found a clinic that:
- We could trust
- Spoke English
- Offered quality services
After all…
You don’t want a doctor digging around in your mouth when you don’t feel comfortable right?
Thankfully Merida is known to have good medical tourism at an affordable price. It’s also known to be an incredibly safe city – in fact, it’s one of the safest places to live in Mexico.
There are tons of dental clinics around and people regularly travel there to get dental work done.
Merida also has lots of expats. What does that mean?
Dental clinics are used to working with people from all over the world, providing trustworthy services for a very cost-effective price. This makes Merida the perfect dental tourism destination.
Just make sure that you know the best time to visit Merida. The weather changes from pleasant to very hot depending on when you go!

Dangers of Dental Tourism
The benefit of getting dental treatment overseas is that it costs a lot less.
But there are a couple of things to be aware of as well.
Dentists in foreign countries are not always subjected to the same laws and standards as your home country. So make sure that you always do your research and choose a dentist you can trust.
Our personal experience with dentists in Merida Mexico was good. But just make sure you do your research first and choose the right dentist for you!
Best Dentist In Merida Mexico
What’s the best dentist in Merida Mexico?
We contacted 4 different dentists in Merida before making our choice. The truth is they all seemed pretty good – but one stuck out to us most…
The best dentist in Merida, Mexico (and the dental click we chose) is Whiteline Dental Clinic.
Here’s why we decided to go with them.
Booking The Appointment
Booking the appointment with Whiteline Dental Clinic was very straightforward.

We simply messaged them on WhatsApp and they are immediately replied.
One thing that we always recommend before booking an appointment is getting a quote upfront. Most dentists in Mexico have set prices for a specific dental procedure, such as getting a filling or something more extensive like a tooth extraction.
Sometimes the prices will change once the dentist actually looks in your mouth to see what’s going on. That’s normal, but it’s smart to get an idea of the price before booking the appointment!
We were super impressed with Whiteline Dental Clinic when booking the appointment because they were flexible. We had left it a little late and Whiteline moved some appointments around to fit us in!
Already the level of service they offered made us feel comfortable.
Getting To The Dentist in Merida
After booking the appointment for a checkup and cleaning with Whiteline – they sent a confirmation and directions to get there.
When we arrived for our appointment, we walked into a clean and modern reception area.

It was exactly what you would expect to find in your home country (potentially even better). We were met by friendly staff who ushered us to sit in the comfortable little waiting area as the doctors prepared everything.

There was free fast wifi and good air conditioning so even on a hot day, we were super comfortable.

They asked us to fill out some forms to collect some general information.
Our Checkup And Dental Cleaning
After about 10 minutes, the 2 doctors came out and introduced themselves.
We were then ushered into the examination room. Whiteline had organized it so that Ashley and I could go at the same time, which was really good of them to do!
The examination room was very clean and modern.

They had everything that you would expect to see in a regular dentist and the dentist chairs were really comfortable.
We were impressed with the quality of care and precaution the doctors took!
They asked us lots of questions and explained everything in detail. Both doctors spoke excellent English, which made our lives much easier.
Transparency is not always a common practice in the dental industry, but Whiteline was extremely transparent with everything. They gave us recommendations, but we didn’t feel like we were pushed into any unnecessary treatments.
Ashley and I only wanted a checkup and deep cleaning – which we get once per year.

The dental cleaning took about 35 minutes and both dentists spent a good amount of time explaining what they had done. They also pointed out a couple of things to watch in the future!
Thankfully we didn’t need anything other than the dental cleaning. That’s always a relief!
All in all, it was an easy and fluid experience. I would say even better than many previous dental experiences I have had in Australia.
Cost Of Our Dentist In Merida Mexico
So the big question…
How much did it cost?
We paid:
- 935 MXN ($45 USD) each for the cleaning (Total 1,850 MXN – $90 USD)
- We also tipped 300 MXN (15 USD) for service.
So the total including the tip was 2,150 MXN or about $105 USD for 2 people. That’s pretty good!
After getting quotes from each dentist we contacted, this was a very reasonable price.
Although we didn’t get a filling done, Whiteline said it was also 935 MXN ($45 USD) per filling. This can change depending on the filling size required, but they will tell you before you start.
You can also pay with cash or a card which is great!
We were very impressed with the quality of service that Whiteline Dental Clinic offered and would absolutely recommend contacting them!

Do Merida Dentists Speak English?
Short Answer – Yes.
Generally, dentists in Merida speak excellent English. Every dentist we contacted spoke English which was great.
It was also kind of funny because…
We would always send the first message in Spanish using Google translate. It seems that the dental assistants who replied knew we were using Google translate, so they responded back in English 😂
I guess that’s just another good sign of their service!
