- Dope Roasting Co.
- Third Place

7x Best Cafes In Athens Greece For Digital Nomads
Digital nomads traveling the world usually have 3 options to choose from:
- work from a cafe
- work from home
- work from a coworking space
This choice always depends on you and what gets you working the best. Matthew and I differ in this case – he loves coworking spaces and I enjoy working from cafes! We find that a mix of both is actually the happy medium for the long term.
While we were living in Athens, we decided we weren’t going to work from a coworking space. We did check a few out and wrote about the coworking spaces in Athens here. But alas, we felt like we wanted to work from cafes instead.
The mission began to find the best cafes in Athens to work from for digital nomads like us. There is an endless number of cafes but not all of them are going to be “laptop-friendly”. In fact, the majority of the cafes in Athens aren’t suited for people working remotely.
Here are the 7 best cafes in Athens to work from as a digital nomad or anyone working remotely even if for a couple of hours.
1. Dope Roasting Co.
The best cafe in Athens to work from has to be Dope Roasting Co. It has everything you could ask for in a “laptop-friendly” space:
- comfortable seating (2 levels, indoor + outdoor)
- fast, reliable wifi (40+ Mbps)
- excellent coffee and pastries
- plenty of plugs available (2nd level)
Dope Roasting Co is located close to the center of Athens, a few blocks away from Monastiraki Square. The charming cafe is beautifully designed with a calming color palette and stunning interior – it’s easy to fall in the love with the place!
They serve excellent Greek coffee and specialty coffee. Matthew was able to order his usual (a flat white) and I enjoyed having a freddo cappuccino from Dope Roasting Co. But they don’t just serve coffee! Dope offers a good selection of pastries and sandwiches to eat if you’re feeling a little peckish.
Dope Roasting Co has plenty of seating options which makes it a great place to work from. There are outdoor seats and indoor seats! We recommend sitting on the 2nd level upstairs because that’s where most of the plugs are available. It does get busy in the afternoon with quite a few Greek students coming in to study with their friends!
We came here at least once a week to work and it was a breath of fresh air, especially if you’re like me and you need a change of environment!
- Reliable Wifi Connection: Always
- Best for: Deep Work
- Chances of Spotting a Digital Nomad: High
- Best time to arrive: Early in the morning to nab those comfy seats
- Maximum time before you get uncomfortable: 4+ hours
- Busy:Afternoon
- Digital Nomad Rating:9/10
If you visit Dope Roasting Co in the morning, it’s much easier to grab your favorite seat! The wifi at Dope is also some of the fastest we’ve seen in Athens at around 48 Mbps. Dope Roasting Co has to be one of the best cafes in Athens to work from and you’ve got to add it to your Saved Places if you want a space to focus!
2. Third Place
We heard about Third Place because we almost went to a meetup for digital nomads here. This seems to be the spot where more long-term digital nomads like to hang out and get work done.
Third Place is a minimalistic coffee shop with specialty coffee and a good selection of pastries and a small brunch menu like avocado toast and sandwiches. If you love iced coffee like me, you are going to love Third Place! This cafe is located between Plaka and Syntagma Square – a very central area in Athens! It’s easy to get to and you won’t have trouble finding it.
It’s a modern coffee shop known amongst digital nomads because the wifi speeds are very quick and there is somewhat of a separate seating area for people using their laptops. When you order a coffee, simply say you are going to be working and they will show you the best seat!
- Reliable Wifi Connection: Always
- Best for: Deep Work
- Chances of Spotting a Digital Nomad: High
- Best time to arrive: Early in the morning to nab those comfy seats
- Maximum time before you get uncomfortable: 2+ hours
- Busy:Afternoon
- Digital Nomad Rating:8.5/10
This is definitely one of the best cafes in Athens to work from because of the fast wifi and there seems to be a community of remote workers that frequently visit Third Place, making it easy to find fellow digital nomads here too.
Third Place is carefully designed and the staff is friendly! The only thing might be the seats aren’t super comfortable but you could ask for a cushion to make it comfier for you! Third Place creates a great atmosphere to get work down and focus with great music in the background.
3. Six Dogs
This modern coffee shop and bar is not your typical cafe to work from. At Six dogs, you can have good coffee, delicious food (like burgers) and fancy cocktails – it’s an all-in-one kind of place!
Six dogs is a popular place for digital nomads to get some work done but also to socialize. It’s located right in the middle of Monastiraki which you wouldn’t expect walking into the massive space with an indoor and outdoor area that can hold quite a few people. As the night goes on, a DJ might also appear and do a set on the weekend!
- Reliable Wifi Connection: Usually
- Best for: Casual Work
- Chances of Spotting a Digital Nomad: High
- Best time to arrive: Early in the morning to nab those comfy seats
- Maximum time before you get uncomfortable: 3+ hours
- Busy:Afternoon/Night
- Digital Nomad Rating:8/10
The best time to work from Six dogs is in the morning. You won’t have trouble finding a seat near some plugs and it will also be a much quieter time to work. By the evening, it turns into a whole bar and eventually into a ‘club’ of some sort.
A lot of digital nomads head to Six dogs in the afternoon to finish off some casual work and they usually get drinks after work right in the same place. Six dogs are one of the best cafes in Athens to work from because you can work hard in the morning and chill (or party) all in the same place!
4. Plegma Coffee & Living
If you live a little further away from the city center of Athens like us, you might enjoy working from Plegma Coffee & Living. We stumbled along this coffee shop (and decor store) during our walk to get some pork gyros.
From the outside, it didn’t look like much other than a home decor shop but then we noticed a nice coffee machine! One of Matthew’s signs of a good coffee shop is the brand of coffee machine they use. We sat outside to do some light work and it was absolutely perfect!
Plegma Coffee is located on a quieter street in a quiet suburb which makes it a very peaceful atmosphere. The space isn’t big but they have a small bench inside the shop which has a plug to charge your laptop. The owner is very friendly and was more than happy for us to pull out our laptops, asking if we needed wifi. The connection was very fast and it was just the place we were looking for!
- Reliable Wifi Connection: Always
- Best for: Deep/Casual Work
- Chances of Spotting a Digital Nomad: Low
- Best time to arrive: Anytime
- Maximum time before you get uncomfortable: 3+ hours
- Busy:Afternoon (if then)
- Digital Nomad Rating:8.5/10
If you want a quiet, calm and small space to get some work done, Plegma Coffee & Living is one of the best cafes in Athens to do just that!
5. Kinono
Kinono is another cool cafe that also turns into a social bar. This seems to be the thing in Greece – we found a lot of cafes serving coffee and cocktails/wine in the same place. We are used to going to specialty coffee shops where all they focus on is coffee. It’s a welcome change!
This cafe has an eclectic design with 2 floors so you won’t have trouble finding a seat. If you want a more quiet vibe, it’s best to visit Kinono in the morning. It does get a little busier in the afternoon! The best seats are on the 2nd floor if you are working with your laptop and you might eventually need a plug.
- Reliable Wifi Connection: Always
- Best for: Deep/Casual Work
- Chances of Spotting a Digital Nomad: Medium
- Best time to arrive: Early morning
- Maximum time before you get uncomfortable: 3+ hours
- Busy: Afternoon
- Digital Nomad Rating: 8.5/10
Kinono is located in one of the best areas to stay in Athens called Koukaki. We stayed here during our first visit to Athens and it was the perfect distance from all the action. If you live in this area and you’re a digital nomads, Kinono is one of the best cafes in Athens to work from during the week!
6. The Underdog
Want a big, spacious cafe to work from that also serves delicious food? The Underdog has to be one of the best cafes in Athens to focus on work but also a great spot for brunch food!
Some days we like to head to a cafe in the morning, order a coffee then proceed to work for a few hours. If you are getting into a good workflow and don’t want to get up from your seat for brunch or lunch – The Underdog serves great avocado toast, eggs benedict, shakshouka and more!

- Chances of Spotting a Digital Nomad: High
- Best time to arrive: Early morning
- Maximum time before you get uncomfortable: 3+ hours

You won’t have trouble finding a seat at The Underdog. This cafe has a more industrial vibe that’s very cool and inspiring. There’s good natural daylight that comes through and there are plenty of plugs across the cafe to charge your laptop.
7. KoukArt
Want to start work early? KoukArt is a great option for you as it opens at 7:00am! KoukArt is located between the suburb of Koukaki and the Acropolis area which is pretty central.
- Reliable Wifi Connection: Always
- Best for: Deep/Casual Work
- Chances of Spotting a Digital Nomad: Low
- Best time to arrive: Early morning
- Maximum time before you get uncomfortable: 3+ hours

- Digital Nomad Rating: 8/10
This cafe has limited seating but just get there early and you won’t have any issues! There are enough plugs and decent wifi to keep you on your work. KoukArt also has pretty comfortable seats which makes it a good cafe in Athens to do more deep work!
Coworking Your Thing? Try These 3x Spaces Instead
Can’t focus on work in a cafe? We get it! Everyone’s preference is different and some people just hate working from a cafe because there can be many distractions.
If you want a quiet space where everyone around you is also working (which is great motivation by the way), a coworking space might be better suited for you!
Here are 3 great coworking spaces in Athens to work from instead:
- Impact Hub Athens
- Vios Coworking Athens
- Selina Athens
You can usually buy a day pass to test out each coworking space before committing to a month. We suggest doing this early in Athens so if you decide you want to cowork (instead of working from cafes) then you can make the most of the monthly unlimited memberships!
